In this webinar, FSMA spotlights the presentation The Role of Technical Assistance in Financing and Scaling up Innovative Sanitation Technologies, by Dr. Barbara Kazimbaya-Senkwe:


Several African countries including Senegal and Kenya are among those where the application of new technologies that shift fecal matter from waste to a resource is slowly taking root. Raising finance to expand and bring these technologies to scale is difficult and requires technical assistance that can facilitate linkages amongst several actors from the public and private sector. Using USAID's WASH-FIN experience in Kenya and Senegal, this session shares the experience of providing such technical assistance, highlighting the opportunities and challenges, and recommending ways in which such technical assistance could play an even bigger role.


The presentation will be followed by a Q&A discussion.

    Dr. Kazimbaya-Senkwe is the Senior Water Sanitation and Hygiene Governance Advisor for USAID’s Water Sanitation and Hygiene Finance (WASH-FIN), a global program working in 5 countries in Africa and 3 in Asia to leverage non-traditional financing to the WASH sector. Dr Kazimbaya-Senkwe is an Urban and Regional Planner with keen interest in the challenges and opportunities for WASH services provision. She has worked as WASH Specialist for the World Bank and USAID, and as an academic at the Zambia College of the Built Environment and the Copperbelt University in Zambia. Dr. Kazimbaya-Senkwe is a founding member of the African Women Sanitation Professionals Network and a Steering Committee Member of the SuSanA African Chapter.
